Art

A friend once told me that anyone can learn how to paint...........despite my protestations........

I started to paint following retirement from Built Asset Consultancy. I kicked off in water colour but found the medium wasn't always relaxing.

I moved to acrylic as a medium which suited me better. The problem here is it dries too fast while you're working it.

Doubting my ability to produce anything worthwhile or meaningful I eventually found inspiration from my Art Tutor Terry Hayes.

I then starting painting in oils which I found much easier as it dries so slowly and you just paint over the top when you want to change the result. Soon after working with oils I discovered Airbrushing. This is a whole new ball game having to remember to do about five things at once. I had weekly lessons from Sydney Australia via Skype with Airbrushtutor.com. I carried on with airbrush painting for just over a year but couldn't relax with it so went back to oils. I've now graduated to water soluble oils which is the best of all worlds.

As a keen sailor I've spent a lot of my life around water, and with my previous career running Yacht Chartering in the Greek Islands and Beach Club Hotels in Skiathos and Corsica; I've always had an affinity with the sea and water. These are themes are often reflected in what I paint. I'm lucky enough to live on the side of a cliff overlooking the sea.The location is a wonderful place to paint as its a constantly changing canvas.

Although I now believe "Anyone CAN learn how to paint", its now my son who disagrees with this!

And so the world turns...
